Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Department has earned and deserves our respect and trust. It is Council’s responsibility to provide them the equipment and resources needed for them to excel at their work. This includes listening to and manifesting their recommendations and providing opportunities for our Public Safety Officers to be recognized and rewarded for their heroic contributions. It also means leading by example in maintaining respectful relationships with our citizens. The safety and security of our community is our highest priority and Council must work tirelessly to ensure we keep this in focus.
Grosse Pointe Park’s two spectacular parks and recreation programming are what set our community above all others. The Council’s role is to lead and support fiscally responsible recommendations from the Recreation Commission and City administration. Future marina improvements is and should continue to be a priority for the Council. Other required efforts include improving the main pier and Patterson Park boardwalk and providing safe playground equipment at both parks. Our City Parks and Recreation staff are committed to providing superior amenities and excellence in programming as well and are worthy of our support.
Grosse Pointe Park has made significant progress in addressing issues related to the major storm event that resulted in the flooding of hundreds of homes in June of 2021. Approval and funding of the Extreme Emergency Release Valve was only one of many initiatives undertaken by the City to address our aging infrastructures. City Council needs to continue providing leadership in making substantial, proactive, and fiscally responsible upgrades to sanitary and storm sewer systems along with required replacement of lead service lines. The Council also needs to recognize and support the superior work of our Public Works department and our City Forester. Beauty with efficiency takes effort and Grosse Pointe Park does it best.
